Three Month Preserve Comparison

This picture is true showcase of how different each season is - and even more so, how different Fall is.  It is not officially Winter until December 21.  Take a look for yourself on how the preserve looked September 19 and how it looks today.

The Preserve - December 19, 2012

Today was the exact type of scene that you would think of when a blizzard warning has been issued. It was a grey day with wind gusts. The prairie is the same color and you the Bison are the same. The pond is still frozen and all the plants and trees appear to be in ‘winter mode’. I did see a few different species of birds including crows and I also noticed an increase in deer prints along the path to the preserve.

It was a beautiful sunny, but breezy day. The prarie is the same color and you can still see the Bison parents and just the head of the baby bison.  As projected, the pond has indeed started to freeze again. There was one difference, the only thing I heard was the wind blowing through the preserve. It appears most of the birds have flown to a warmer part of the country.

It was a partly cloudy day, which reflects how the picture looks today. The bison are the same color and you can still see the Bison parents and just the head of the baby bison. The frozen pond from last week has turned back into free flowing pond due to our 60 degree weather this past week. I’m sure by next week, it will be frozen again.

The Preserve - November 28

Sorry for not posting last week due to Thanksgiving, do not worry, the Preserve did not have any major changes.  On this sunny day, the change in the preserve has stayed the same. The bison are the same color and you can still see the Bison parents and just the head of the baby bison. The chirping of the birds have become less and less. There was one small change at the preserve that I noticed, the pond has frozen over.  It is, most likely, not completely frozen, but the top of the pond now has a small layer of ice on top.
