Staff

Y Camp's main focus has been, is, and will always be the kids, the
kids, the kids, the kids, the kids. To do this it takes a certain type
of person to put campers as the main focus and keep them thereas well as teach them about character, provide an incredible camp experience, and build friendships all while helping them to make new friends. It can be a tough job, but honestly one of the most fun and rewarding experiences in a young person’s life. All Y Camp staff go through thorough national background checks, are trained in CPR and First Aid, attend two weeks of staff training, go through a long interview process, and are supervised by full-time camp staff with over fifteen years of experience running summer camp.

 

Here are just a few things it takes to be a Leader at Y Camp:

  • A strong belief in the goals of Y Camp and the Mission of the YMCA in “Putting Christian principles into practice through programs that build a strong spirit, mind and body for all.”

  • Placing the camper fist in our thinking and responsibility. At Y Camp it is all about the kids, the kids, the kids, the kids, the kids.
  • Taking the job seriously, but not yourself. By having fun Leaders help campers have fun too.

  • Treatment of every camper as a special individual.
     
  • A willingness to give that special and personal touch while going the extra mile that creates magic for a camper.
  • A teachable spirit. Staff with open minds, and a willingness to learn as much as possible about others, their faith, new skills, and themselves will always be great leaders.

  • Always wearing a smile. Y Camp Leaders recognize that attitude is infectious,and a positive, never give up attitude is essential in creating a positive experience for campers.

  • Developing and maintaining a team atmosphere that others can grow and develop within.
